Do you want to learn how to immigrate to the US?

We all have dreams of living in another country. You want to travel the world and see its wonders or settle down in a place that appeals to your dreams. Regardless of whether it’s for love, work, or study, the motivation for immigrating is different for everyone.

Immigrating to the USA is a lifelong dream, but the USA limits the number of people that can live in the country. The only way for you to ensure your stay is to get a visa.

These are the types of Visa you need to know before immigrating to the US. Read what we have below to ensure you can enter the country.

Apply for a Visa

The U.S. Department of State issues visas to foreign nationals. The embassy or a consulate can issue these visas to anyone looking to enter the country.

However, you do not need these visas if the purpose of your visit is for a vacation or a business meeting. Show your travel documents as you enter the country to avoid complications.

The reason for your travel will determine the type of visa you need to enter the US. There are many types of immigration visas which we will mention below.

Apply for an Immigrant Visa

Immigrant visas are for people who plan to live in the USA. The immigrant visa permits an application for admission to the US. It offers the opportunity of legal, permanent residency and of getting U.S. citizenship along the line.

To apply for this kind of visa, foreign nationals must have sponsorship from a US citizen. A family member or a relative with legal permanent residency are all good candidates. They only need to have U.S. citizenship to represent.

It’s also possible to get sponsorship from the employer if they’re a US citizen. They can file a petition for a foreign national whom they wish to hire for a permanent position. They can also stand as representatives if the foreign national needs help with immigration problems.

Family-based Visa

As mentioned above, a foreign national can only enter the country via an immigrant visa. If the person represents them is a family member, though, they can apply for a family-based visa. The representative must be a US citizen, above 21 years of age, and a green cardholder.

There are two types of family-based immigrant visas. The first is an immediate relative visa which pertains to a spouse, child, or parent. The second type of visa is the family preference; this refers to more distant family-like relatives.

Keep in mind that U.S. citizens can file petitions only for their; Spouse, son or daughter, parent, and siblings. This means that, if you’re married, you can petition for your spouse and your child, too.

Apply for a Fiancé Visa

If you’re engaged with a US citizen with plans to marry and live in the US, what you need is a K-1 or fiancé visa. This allows you to visit the country to get married. You must do it within a set timeframe, though.

You can apply for a change of status to get a permanent resident or green card. This is possible right after getting married. The K-1 visa is only valid for 90 days and is not extendable.

Failing to get married within the 90-day timeframe has serious consequences. The worst is possible deportation due to being an illegal alien in the country.

Employment-Based Immigration

There are five categories that divide the employment-based immigration visa. The first category pertains to priority workers and people of extraordinary ability. The second category is about professionals that hold an advanced degree.

The third category pertains to skilled, unskilled workers, and professionals. The fourth category is about special immigrants, including translators, and religious workers. The fifth categories are immigrant investors and new commercial enterprise which provide job creation.

These visas are in a delicate spot right now, though. Most companies are denying these visas and putting them on hold nowadays.

Returning Resident Visa

If you’re a lawful permanent resident (LPR) or conditional resident, you can apply for a returning resident visa. This also applies if you’ve stayed out of the country for more than one year.

You will need to get a new immigrant visa to enter the USA and resume residence. Contacting the US embassy ahead of time if you want to apply for this visa. Try contacting them three months ahead of time.

This is to allow them enough time to process the visa. This also allows them to set an interview with you ahead of time.

Adoption Visa

An intercountry adoption visa is a process of adopting a child from a country. It’s a legal way for you to bring that child to your country of residence. This is also an opportunity for them to get legal permanent residence in the country.

Intercountry adoption is one of the Department of State’s highest priorities. Each year, thousands of U.S. citizens adopt children from abroad. It’s important to ensure the adopted child becomes a US citizen.

Diversity Visa

The Diversity Immigrant Visa program, also known as the green card lottery. A United States lottery program for receiving the US Permanent Resident Card. The purpose of the program is to diversify the immigrant population in the USA.

Sunshine Slate

The program applies to the country that has a low number of immigrants to the USA in the past five years. Philippine-born applicants aren’t included in the program. Countries determined to have low admission by the US Attorney General may compete in this program.
