Tom Petty Announces Two Florida Dates, Affinity For PB&J Sandwiches

[Gainesville, FL] Breaking news: Gainesville-grown Tom Petty‘s favorite sandwich is a PB&J.

That’s right, the American superstar sort-of-roots rocker loves him a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, or so he said during a Twitter interview last month, as reported on Billboard.com.

Other news from the Petty camp include 2012 North American Tour dates, including a pair of stops in Florida.

May 1, 2012 in Estero at Germain Arena (on sale Jan. 7 @ 10 a.m.)
May 3, 2012 in Orlando at Amway Center (on sale Jan. 6 10 a.m.)

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers will also play at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival on April 28.

Mr. Petty also has revealed plans to make another album, although it is “too soon to know details … it`s early days.” Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers’ last effort, Mojo, was released in June of 2010. That album – which rocks, by the way – failed to even go gold, moving less than 300,000 units in the U.S.

That’s surprising as Petty and everything he has ever touched has literally turned to gold, or multiplatinum (he’s responsible or partly responsible for sales of upwards of 60 million albums throughout his long and fruitful career).

Fans can also look for an expanded edition of Tom Petty‘s 1994 solo effort Wildflowers. Petty admits that there is more unreleased material from that session, but the decision hasn’t been made and no release date set.

There’s also talk of some Blu-ray releases of his back catalog, reports Billboard.com.

“I believe it’s the future,” he tweeted.

Also revealed: Petty feels that the best musician alive is either J.J. Cale or Regina Spektor.

The current line-up for Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers:

  • Tom Petty – lead vocals, rhythm guitar, lead guitar, percussion, backing vocals
  • Mike Campbell – lead guitar, mandolin, Marxophone
  • Scott Thurston – rhythm guitar, harmonica, lap steel guitar, ukelele, backing vocals, lead vocals
  • Ron Blair – bass guitar, backing vocals
  • Benmont Tench – piano, keyboards, backing vocals
  • Steve Ferrone – drums, percussion
