On May 29, multi-platinum musician and hit songwriter Sean Kingston was involved in an accident while driving a jet ski in Miami, Florida. According to sources – including celebrity newser TMZ – Kingston was severely injured and initially listed as being in critical condition, but has since stabilized. He’s been transferred to the intensive care unit at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
At approximately 6 p.m. EST, Kingston (born Kisean Anderson in 1990) and a female passenger (Cassandra Sanchez, according to TMZ) hit the bridge connecting Palm Island with the MacArthur Causeway. Within 15-20 minutes, the 21 year-old Jamaican-American was rushed to the hospital, according to media sources.
According to TMZ, a member of the Coast Guard – Jonathan Rivera – on his day off, happened to come across the accident scene and likely saved the singer’s life with his knowledgeable actions.
Sanchez, who apparently told Kingston to slow down, has sore ribs but is otherwise is OK.
Kingston has released two hit albums and a multitude of singles. His hits include “Beautiful Girls,” “Me Love” “Fire Burning,” which is known as the 9-1-1 song. Kingston has also written hit songs for (or collaborated with) other artists such as Jason Derülo, Iyaz, Sugababes, and most notably, fellow youth phenom Justin Bieber (although Beebs is in another stratosphere).
The Beiber connection is controversial and has somewhat diminished his street cred with his more hard core followers who were drawn to Kingston’s infectious pop hooks. The two youngsters do have a lot in common, including riding the MySpace/YouTube wave to major stardom.
Kingston is a 2007 Teen Choice Awards winner.
