[Fort Lauderdale, FL] On Sunday, March 4, motorcycle enthusiasts from all over South Florida will gather for a charity bike ride, all the while enjoying good company and the open road. And let’s not forget the after-party at a Coral Springs hot spot featuring live music and bike-centric displays and vendors.
All of the proceeds from the Big Bike Riders Children’s Foundation fundraiser go to benefit the Chris Evert Children’s Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, which provides family-centered care for newborns, neonates, children and youth. The hospital was named after female tennis legend Chris Evert, a Broward native.
The event is called “Celebration of Smiles Charity Ride 4 Kids,” and includes a 55-mile ride among the day’s festivities, which begins with hitting the road at 10 am. The bikers will be escorted by the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Fort Lauderdale and Coral Springs Police Departments.
Last year, over 700 riders and hundreds of supporters from the community raised over $12,000 for the worthy cause.
“The Big Bike Riders Children’s Foundation works very hard to bring smiles to the faces of youngsters everywhere,” said Ron Catronio, executive director and chairman of the foundation. “I am very excited that we are able to hold our Ride yet again at Chris Evert Children’s Hospital.”
“This year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever,” he added.

The charity bike ride will rev-up at the hospital and head over to Bru’s Room Sports Grill in Coral Springs, which claims to be the best sports bar and grill in “all of South Florida.” That’s a pretty lofty claim, but at least we know their heart’s in the right place.
Once at Bru’s, the party begins with music by kids from the School of Rock as well as three area bands – Southern Rock Society Band, Hat Trick and The Big Dogs. There will also be bike-builders on display for enthusiasts and the curious alike, as well as a host of vendors offering a variety of wares.
Note: you do not have to be a biker to attend the destination party at Bru’s or feel the roar of the send-off at Chris Evert Children’s Hospital.
Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. with an opening ceremony starting at 9:30 a.m. For more info, to purchase tickets for the ride or just find out more about BBRCF, visit the Big Bike Riders Children’s Foundation website at www.BikersCare4Kids.org.
