[Seminole County, FL] Things will be quiet for a while for George Zimmerman as his defense team has decided to delay filing a motion for bond.
“A hearing will not be scheduled for a couple of weeks, and we will file a the motion well in advance of the hearing,” the attorneys for Mr. Zimmerman – stated on their site, gzlegalcase.com.
Originally, the plan was to immediately hold a hearing on Zimmerman’s bond after he was ordered back into custody on Friday after the judge felt that the confessed shooter of Trayvon Martin misled the court about his financial situation.
Zimmerman claims self-defense.
During his first bond hearing which allowed him to leave county custody, Zimmerman, 28, failed to inform the court that a website that he had set up had brought in over $200,000 in donations for his legal defense and personal expenses, as reported by Sunshine Slate.
“We feel the failure to disclose these funds was caused by fear, mistrust, and confusion,” claims his defense team.
Zimmerman’s legal eagles acknowledge that their client waited until 5 days after the initial hearing to notify the court of the money. Calls between George Zimmerman and his wife prove that he lied in court about his financial situation.
They also understand that this episode has hurt their client’s credibility, which “he will have to work to repair,” according to his defense team.
That money-making website has since been taken down. Since then, his defense team has set up an unprecedented trio of sites to help sway public opinion of Zimmerman, who has been charged with second-degree murder. Read about those sites here.
Zimmerman’s more properly managed Legal Defense Fund has received more than $37,000 in donations. To date, Zimmerman has been given more than $240,000 by supporters.
Zimmerman’s highly anticipated trial is expected to start some time next year.
