Water You Looking At: The Beauty Of Destin (VIDEO)

Destin Is A Picturesque Place In Which To Live And To Play

Pictures by: Roman Lungu

[Destin, FL] Destin is downright beautiful. Known as Florida’s Emerald Coast, Destin is famous for its white beaches and emerald green waters. It is the crown jewel of the Fort Walton Beach-Crestview-Destin metropolitan area.

Located in Okaloosa County, Destin was originally a fishing village. These days, it is a popular tourist destination. Each year, roughly 3.6 million visitors descend on Destin’s picturesque beaches, waterways and docks.

“The World’s Luckiest Fishing Village” claims to have the largest fishing vessel fleet in the state.

Please enjoy Destin and the surrounding areas as seen through the eyes (and lenses) of Roman Lungu. You’ll find links and more information on Roman and his works at the end of this exhibition.

Alys Beach

Alys Beach is one of the 15 beach communities that make up the 26-mile stretch of beaches on Northwest Florida’s Gulf Coast known as South Walton. Alys Beach focuses on environmental responsibility and sustainability. There are a lot of short-term vacation rentals here. The area is ideal for hiking, biking, kayaking, or fishing.

Destin Bridge

The Destin Bridge connects Destin to the east, with Santa Rosa Island to the west. It carries U.S. Route 98 over Destin’s East Pass, which is a relatively narrow body of water connecting Choctawhatchee Bay to the north with the Gulf of Mexico to the south.

A dock in Destin

Destin is named after Captain Leonard Destin, a New London, Connecticut fishing master who settled in the area in 1845 or 1850. More than one hundred years later, the first of many condos were built. Interestingly, Destin was not incorporated as a municipality until 1984. Not surprisingly, the city has experienced rapid growth since incorporating.

World famous Emerald Grande Resort

From the Emerald Grande folks: Emerald Grande at HarborWalk Village is Destin’s “shining jewel” overlooking some of the most marvelous turquoise water and sugar-sand beaches in creation. The Prodigious architecture blends harmoniously with the harbor front setting. All rooms have spacious balconies with panoramic views of the emerald coast.

With four different resort residence categories to accommodate families of all sizes, you’ll enjoy luxurious accommodations that include custom-crafted furnishings and lavish baths, with a level of service that sets the standard for all other family resorts.

The Bridges Of  Okaloosa County

Beautiful, ain’t it? That’s probably why Destin is home to the likes of Emeril Lagasse, Britney Spears, Sheryl Crow, Karl Rove, Mike Huckabee, actor Wayne Rogers and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, to name but a few.

Fountain at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort

Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort is a 2,400-acre destination resort in Miramar Beach, located on Northwest Florida’s Gulf Coast. The resort is located between the Gulf of Mexico and the Choctawhatchee Bay, in Walton County.

Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort

The resort of Sandestin is often called a “gated city,” as lodging and residences are spread through 30 neighborhoods with 1,600 condominiums, houses, villas, town homes and hotel accommodations. Many celebrities are often spotted vacationing there in the off seasons and a few even own homes in Sandestin.

Boat Docked In Destin

Destin is located on a peninsula separating the Gulf of Mexico from Choctawhatchee Bay. The peninsula was originally an island; hurricanes and sea level changes gradually connected the island to the mainland.

Emerald Grande Resort

From the Emerald Grande folks: Emerald Grande is nestled inside HarborWalk Village where activities and entertainment waits to please each and every taste in your family. Dive in and make memories that will last a lifetime. Here you can find waterfront shopping, water sports, boat, pontoon and ski rentals, world class fishing, aqua adventures, dolphin cruises, clubs and nightlife, weekly fireworks, seasonal festivals, live entertainment, and an array of restaurants to satisfy all tastes.

About the photographer: Roman, 25, is from the Repbulic of Moldova, located between Romania and the Ukraine. He moved to Destin four years ago, and fell in love with the area immediately. He describes himself as a beginner photographer that specializes in beach weddings and family beach portraits.

According to Roman, photography is, “my passion and hobby … my photography doesn’t simply record how things look,” says the worldly shutterbug. “I document the real emotions and authentic moments … capturing the story in beautiful and innovative way.”

His favorite quotation is: “Life is not the amount of breaths you take, it’s the moments that take your breath away.”
